KIPP REACH: Backpack Drive and Supply List
I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Alexis Black and Tracy McDaniel of Kipp Reach College Preparatory Middle School. The KIPP program has gained notoriety for setting a standard of high scholastic achievement. I was highly impressed by the test scores of the KIPPsters, especially considering that some students entered the school barely knowing how to read. I was touched by the fact that KIPP Reach accepts students whose previous performance would prevent them from entering into other prep schools. Despite the entry requirements the KIPP Reach student test scores were either or on par with or exceeded many of the other college prep schools. After a brief overview of the program, I decided to donate some of my design talents to the program for the upcoming year.
A few weeks later I received a call from Leon Fowler, the COO of Valiant Services, LLC. He was buzzing with enthusiasm about an idea he had on how to help the students of KIPP Reach. His idea, inspired by viewing a piece on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant, was to provide backpacks to the students of KIPP reach. I immediately contacted Dr. Quintin Hughes of Ph.D. Enterprises (Ph.D. Entertainment) who poured over with enthusiasm about the idea. We eventually received approval from KIPP Reach and Tracy McDaniel even agreed to speak at our upcoming discussion forum Truth Be Told Live! which takes place on the last Thursday of every month from 7pm-9pm at Urban Roots in Oklahoma City, OK.
